Johannes von Duisburg

Biography

Born in Dresden, bass-baritone Johannes von Duisburg, studied and obtained his degree at the Universität der Kunste in Berlin. Whilst there he attended the master class of Kammersänger Prof. Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and was awarded first price in the Philip Morris Young Artists Competition, the second price for the Opera Singers Competition Staatsoper Hannover, and the O.E.Hasse Award for outstanding stage-performers. He went on to join the Mecklenburgische Staatstheater Schwerin and made his role-debuts as Don Pizarro FIDELIO and as the world`s youngest FLIEGENDER HOLLÄNDER. As a freelance artist he has appeared all over the world in principal theatres including the opera houses of Barcelona, Cagliari, Geneva, Lisbon, Florence, Cagliari, Napoli, Rome (at both the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and Teatro dell`Opera), Trieste, Budapest, Bologna, Köln, Moscow, St.Petersburg, Tel Aviv, Warsaw, Prague, Strasbourg and the Festivals of Wexford, Bregenz and Savonlinna, Spoleto, Ravello and Ravenna 

His roles include Hans Sachs DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG, Holländer DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER, TelramundLOHENGRIN, 
Jochanaan SALOME, Amonasro AIDA, Kaspar DER FREISCHÜTZ, Escamillo CARMEN, Scarpia TOSCA, Sarastro DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Wotan/Wanderer RHEINGOLD/SIEGFRIED/WALKÜRE and John Claggart BILLY BUDD.
He has taught at the Liszt Academy Budapest and is invited to give master classes regularly throughout the world.
 
In April 2015 he was awarded the honorary title of Kammersänger
